A PLACE TO SOCIALISE AND MEET
In April 1969 a public meeting was held to discuss the possible closure of the small village school. Unfortunately the closure went ahead and in 1974 the Village Hall Committee purchased the building for £1,000. A tremendous amount of work was carried out by the committee of the day and in 1980 the hall was altered and extended to include a kitchen, toilet, entrance foyer and decorated throughout. A great deal of the money was raised locally, but we were also able to take advantage of local council grants. We now have a new kitchen and disables toilets and ramps so that everyone of all ages and abilities can be part of the many activities we hold all year round.
During the course of the year we hold many and varied events from Sunday lunches,
a Lincolnshire Fayre evening (this is always a fantastic spread of foods sourced
locally) and in the now always oversubscribed Lincoln Red Beef evening, when our
local farmers cook large joints of village Lincoln Red Beef for around 80 people.
Other popular events include the Spring Flower Show and the Flower & Vegetable Show
later in the year when villagers from Hemingby, Baumber and Edlington are invited
to present their produce -
Travelling theatre groups also visit us several times a year, when villagers are able to enjoy events they would normally have to travel a considerable distance to enjoy. We have heard award winning Northumbrian pipers, The Irish Harper of the year, Celtic Fiddle players, stories for children and ghost stories for adults. We have been lucky enough to hear fabulous poets and see puppeteers and comedy plays, all on our doorstep.
Hemingby Village Hall remains a key element in the fabric of our community and enables us to get together for official meetings (Parish Council, Church, Local elections etc.) but above all to socialise and help strengthen the village. Our Village Hall is here to welcome locals and visitors alike.
